This is one of the most unique styles of Louis Vuitton bags because of its provenance. In 1976, Louis Vuitton was the premier luggage of wealthy travelers in the USA. So much so that LV couldn't keep up with demand. To address this, they partnered with The French Company, the best luxury luggage maker in the US at the time, to make Louis Vuitton pieces to be sold at American department stores like Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. This partnership lasted until 1991, and resulted in some of the highest quality bags Louis Vuitton ever sold.
Key differences between regular Louis Vuitton pieces and those by Louis Vuitton and The French Company are The French Co's use of more durable coated leather in the trim and handles, and hardware and zippers made by Talon and Eclaire. There is also a tag inside for authenticity instead of a date code.
